Perimenopause and Menopause Care

Your Health Is Changing. Your Care Should Evolve With You.

Perimenopause and menopause are natural stages of life, but the symptoms that accompany them can have a significant impact on how you feel, function, and experience everyday life. Changes in sleep, mood, energy, menstrual cycles, sexual health, and body composition can begin years before your final menstrual period. For many women, these changes are frustrating, confusing, and often overlooked.

At Honeybee NP Aesthetics & Wellness, we believe women deserve more than a quick prescription or reassurance that their symptoms are simply part of aging.

Our approach combines individualized medical evaluation, evidence-based hormone therapy when appropriate, and comprehensive wellness strategies to help you navigate this transition with confidence.

Care that looks beyond your hormones. Because your health is more than a single laboratory result.

Understanding Perimenopause & Menopause

Perimenopause: The Transition Before Menopause

Perimenopause is the transitional period when ovarian hormone production begins to fluctuate. It commonly begins in the 40s, although some women experience changes earlier.

During this stage, estrogen levels can fluctuate significantly, ovulation becomes less predictable, and progesterone production may change. Symptoms can occur even while menstrual periods are still regular.

Menopause: A New Hormonal Stage

Menopause is clinically defined as 12 consecutive months without a menstrual period, in the absence of another cause.

As ovarian estrogen production declines, some women experience persistent symptoms affecting sleep, temperature regulation, vaginal and urinary health, and overall quality of life.

Although these transitions are natural, bothersome symptoms deserve thoughtful evaluation and effective treatment.

Common Symptoms We Evaluate

Hormonal transitions can affect women differently. Common concerns include:

  • Hot flashes and night sweats

  • Difficulty falling asleep or staying asleep

  • Brain fog and changes in concentration

  • Mood changes, irritability, or increased anxiety

  • Irregular or changing menstrual cycles

  • Vaginal dryness or discomfort with intimacy

  • Changes in sexual desire

  • Fatigue and reduced energy

  • Weight gain or changes in body fat distribution

  • Joint discomfort and changes in physical well-being

Not every symptom is caused by menopause. Thyroid disorders, anemia, sleep conditions, medication effects, and other medical concerns can produce overlapping symptoms.

Our goal is to understand the full clinical picture before developing a treatment plan.

A Comprehensive Approach to Midlife Women's Health

Your first step is understanding—not simply prescribing.

At Honeybee NP, we begin with a detailed medical consultation focused on your symptoms, medical history, menstrual patterns, current medications, personal risk factors, and individual health goals.

Your evaluation may include:

Comprehensive Symptom & Health Assessment

We explore how symptoms are affecting your sleep, emotional well-being, daily functioning, sexual health, and quality of life.

Individualized Laboratory Evaluation

Laboratory testing may be recommended to evaluate concerns such as thyroid dysfunction, anemia, metabolic changes, or nutritional deficiencies.

Perimenopause and menopause are often diagnosed clinically. Routine hormone testing is not necessary for every patient, and a single hormone level may not accurately represent fluctuating hormone activity.

Cardiometabolic & Bone Health

Midlife is an important time to assess blood pressure, cholesterol, blood sugar, bone health, physical activity, and other factors that influence long-term wellness.

Personalized Treatment Planning

We discuss appropriate treatment options, potential benefits, risks, and alternatives to create a plan aligned with your symptoms and preferences.

Hormone Therapy: An Evidence-Based Treatment Option

Menopausal hormone therapy is one of the most effective treatments for bothersome hot flashes and night sweats. It can also help prevent bone loss in appropriately selected patients.

At Honeybee NP, hormone therapy is individualized based on your medical history, stage of menopause, treatment goals, and risk factors.

Treatment options may include:

Estradiol (Estrogen Therapy)

Estradiol may be prescribed through transdermal patches, gels, or oral formulations when appropriate.

Systemic estrogen therapy can be highly effective for hot flashes and night sweats. Treatment selection considers factors such as cardiovascular health, blood clot risk, and individual preferences.

Micronized Progesterone

For women with a uterus who use systemic estrogen, appropriate endometrial protection is essential to reduce the risk of endometrial hyperplasia and cancer.

Micronized progesterone is one option, with the regimen individualized to the estrogen dose and clinical circumstances.

Vaginal Estrogen & Genitourinary Health

Low-dose vaginal estrogen may be considered for vaginal dryness, painful intercourse, and certain urinary symptoms associated with menopause.

Local treatment can be appropriate even when systemic hormone therapy is not needed.

Testosterone: Selective Use

Testosterone therapy may be considered in carefully selected women with distressing hypoactive sexual desire disorder after an appropriate evaluation.

It is not routinely recommended for general fatigue, weight loss, or anti-aging purposes.

Bioidentical Hormone Therapy

Bioidentical refers to hormones that are chemically identical to hormones produced by the human body. FDA-approved bioidentical estradiol and micronized progesterone formulations are available.

We prioritize therapies supported by clinical evidence, established dosing standards, and individualized safety assessment.

Hormone therapy is not appropriate for every woman. Nonhormonal options are also discussed when indicated or preferred.

Hormones Are Only Part of the Picture

At Honeybee NP, we recognize that effective midlife care involves more than managing estrogen and progesterone.

Your symptoms and long-term health can also be influenced by nutrition, physical activity, metabolic health, sleep, stress, and underlying medical conditions.

Our comprehensive approach may include:

Metabolic Health & Blood Sugar Regulation

Assessment of insulin resistance, blood sugar, cholesterol, and changes in body composition.

Nutrition & Gut Health

Practical strategies to support adequate protein intake, dietary fiber, digestive health, and sustainable nutrition habits.

Sleep & Stress Management

Evaluation of sleep disturbances, stressors, and lifestyle patterns that may worsen symptoms.

Muscle & Bone Health

Sexual & Vaginal Wellness

Individualized care for vaginal dryness, discomfort with intimacy, and sexual health concerns.

Long-Term Preventive Health

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know if I'm in perimenopause?

Perimenopause is often identified through your age, menstrual history, and symptoms. Hormone levels can fluctuate substantially, so laboratory testing is not always required to make the diagnosis.

Can I start hormone therapy before my periods stop?

Some women may be candidates for hormone therapy during perimenopause. Treatment decisions depend on symptoms, medical history, contraception needs, and individual risk factors.

Do I need hormone testing before starting treatment?

Not always. A clinical assessment is often more informative than a single estrogen or FSH measurement. Testing may be appropriate when the diagnosis is uncertain or another medical condition is suspected.

Is bioidentical hormone therapy safer than traditional hormone therapy?

Bioidentical hormones are not automatically safer. FDA-approved estradiol and micronized progesterone are available, while custom-compounded formulations generally lack the same standardized testing for safety, effectiveness, and dosing consistency.

Will hormone therapy help me lose weight?

Hormone therapy is not a weight loss treatment. Midlife weight changes may involve aging, body composition, sleep, lifestyle, and metabolic factors. We evaluate these concerns individually and discuss appropriate management options.

Is hormone therapy safe?

For many healthy women younger than 60 or within 10 years of menopause, the benefits of systemic hormone therapy for bothersome symptoms may outweigh the risks. However, safety depends on individual factors, including medical history, formulation, dose, and timing.

What if I cannot or do not want to take hormones?

Evidence-based nonhormonal treatments are available for certain menopause symptoms. We can discuss these options and develop a plan based on your needs and preferences.
